A Monument of Freedom and Friendship
The Statue of Liberty stands as one of the most recognized symbols of freedom in the world. Presented by the people of France to the United States in 1885 and dedicated on October 28, 1886, on Bedloe’s Island, the statue commemorates the enduring alliance between the two nations during the American Revolution.
Beyond its historical significance, the statue carries a deeper meaning within the teachings. It was the Goddess of Liberty who inspired the idea of this monument as a gift from France to America—an outer expression of a greater spiritual reality linking both nations in the cause of freedom.
The Inspiration Behind the Statue
Sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi designed and constructed the Statue of Liberty, titled Liberty Enlightening the World. According to the teachings, his inspiration was connected to the focus of the flame of liberty in southern France at the etheric retreat of Paul the Venetian, known as the Château de Liberté.
Thus, the statue represents not only a work of art or a political gesture, but also a symbolic bridge—linking the spiritual heritage of France with the evolving destiny of the United States.
The Symbolism of the Goddess of Liberty
Every aspect of the Statue of Liberty carries meaning. The Goddess of Liberty wears a crown of seven rays, representing the power of the Elohim and the manifestation of the seven rays in matter—the mother aspect of Divinity. Her crown is also a focus of the seven rays anchored in the forehead of every son and daughter of God.
The Goddess of Liberty represents the “Lady with the lamp,” a figure of illumination and guidance, embodying a noble ideal of strength, virtue, and enlightened womanhood. She carries the Book of Divine Law, the Book of Illumination, containing the knowledge that shows mankind the way out of the night of human error. The tablet in her hand represents this Law, later inscribed with the Declaration of Independence to personalize the gift.
At the base of the Statue of Liberty are broken chains, symbolizing a being free from the bondage of human creation, stepping forth to enlighten the world. Her torch is the flame of cosmic illumination.
A Path of Inner Ascent
The Statue of Liberty also holds a deeper symbolic meaning related to the spiritual journey. The ascent to her crown, with its spiraling steps, reflects the path of initiation and the expansion of consciousness. Each step upward corresponds to a greater awareness of the divine light within.
Teachings from Beloved Kuan Yin
Beloved Kuan Yin has spoken of the Statue of Liberty:
Blessed hearts, have you ever thought, symbolically, that the climb to the very crown of the Statue of Liberty is the following of the spiraling steps of the Kundalini or even of the DNA chain of the I AM Race that is guarded by the Lady with the Lamp?
Have you ever thought that climbing that stairway, round and round, is a passageway to the secret chamber of her heart, to the interior castle, and to the path of the secret rays?
Blessed ones, even the windows around the crown denote the opening of the pathway—twelve open doors of initiation, symbolized by the seven rays in her crown and the five that are in her heart.[2]
A Bridge Between Nations and a Call to Freedom
The gift of the Statue of Liberty represents more than friendship between nations—it signifies the spanning of an arc of liberty from the Château de Liberté back to the Temple of the Sun. It reflects a shared responsibility to uphold the flame of liberty until a golden age may again appear, founded upon the balanced and expanded threefold flame within the hearts of the freedom-loving people of these sister nations.
In this light, the Statue of Liberty stands not only as a monument of the past, but as a living symbol of the ongoing call to freedom—both outer and inner. It invites each individual to recognize the light within and to participate in the work of bringing greater illumination, truth, and liberty to the world.
